myHack 3.3.1

Here it is, thanks to schnitzel slaving away over a decompiler and myself rebooting and testing numerous times we have finally found a very clean method of patching the 10.9.0 OSInstall.framework to allow for MBR installation. I am aware there is another patch which has been circulating, I even took a look at a decompiled diff of it – which is why I chose to develop our own patch rather than using it, folks, it was ugly, I was concerned that with as hacked up as it was it may result in unforeseen problems to end users. Our patch replaces only 3 8-byte chunks (similar to the ML and L patches contained in myHack). Clean and effective.

The following notes carry over from the myHack 3.3 release, I wanted to get the MBR patch out before putting more time into the rest of the planned updates.

Note: Several users have reported a “Selection does not appear to be a valid OS X installation source error”. Ensure you are pointing to the Install OS X Mavericks.app or InstallESD.dmg if you are pointing myHack to a .dmg which *contains* the Install OS X Mavericks.app that will cause the error.

Also please note that you should not run myHack.app from the .dmg it is distributed on. You should copy it to your local disk first.

I will add checks to warn users who accidentally make these mistakes to myHack in the next release to provide additional error prevention to users, but I did not want to wait to release this version any longer so for now these warnings should be enough.

The download is available on the guide page.

Changelog:

  • Added MBR patch for OS X 10.9.0

I meant to get this out before the official Mavericks release but I kept it in beta testing a bit longer to ensure it was completely stable. File transfer progress is vastly superior to previous versions and also faster (2-5x faster in all of our tests). It was my original intention to release this as version 3.2 but I bumped the version number to ensure there is no confusion.

About the myHack forum.

It is no secret that the myHack forum has been ruined by spammers over the past few months. I had taken steps to resolve the problem but it was inadequate. The larger issue is that I do not have the time required to single handedly manage the forum properly but it is of importance to me to provide adequate support to myHack users. To that end I have decided to merge the myHack forum with my good friends at OSXLatitude. We have been working closely together for the last year to deliver solutions which benefit both myHack users and their own users and it is a logical progression of our cooperative efforts to bring simplified hackintosh methods to the masses.

The merge will happen over the next 24 hours, during which period both the myHack forums and the OSXLatitude forums will be offline temporarily. Stay tuned.

UPDATE:

Merge complete! I’d like to thank the rest of the OSXLatitude crew for the work they did during the merge, that was a lot of spam to handle… Sheesh.

All of you with an account should have gotten an email from them, your existing accounts should still work, if not, create a new one. We look forward to seeing you there! :)

myHack 3.2 BETA 8

This version is now deprecated, consult the myHack guide for a link to the latest version.

This has taken a lot longer than I anticipated to actually release. I have not had the time, energy or financial resources to dedicate more time to this project than a day here or there for many months. There are still more changes planned for the 3.2 milestone and I like to avoid releasing minor builds or revisions these days but in this case it is quite justified due to this years WWDC and the release of the 10.9 developer preview.

The download is available on the guide page.

Changelog:

  • Bugfix: Fixed “user canceled exiting error”.
  • Bugfix: Fixed (and improved) dialog icons.
  • Made MBR Patch optional (yes/no dialog).
  • Updated chameleon.
  • Added support for OS X 10.9 DP1.
  • Added TRIM enabler option – will enable TRIM support for all non-apple SSD’s.**
  • Other miscellaneous bugfixes and improvements.
**The TRIM enabler makes all changes in /Extra/ and does not modify /System/Library/Extensions/ at all. It works on all OS versions which support TRIM, though I am still waiting for confirmation that it works correctly on 10.9 DP1.

OS X 10.9 (AKA Mavericks)

I am quite busy these days so I will keep this brief and let the following picture do most of the talking for me.

That is right, 10.9 DP1 installed with myHack 3.2 Beta

There are still some bugs, as all DP1’s always have. But I will be making a beta release of 3.2 soon so that the rest of you apple developers can begin playing for yourselves without the hassle of a completely manual installation.

The only thing not working OOB on my hackintosh using my existing Extra is audio. Skype constantly crashes (which is a 10.9/skype bug that happens on real Mac’s). Other than that the only issue I ran into was the installation could not reboot the system and I was forced to perform a hard shutdown via the power switch. I am writing this post from 10.9 right now.
